Hurricane Poetry

Her tears course down her cheeks in swollen rivulets
At times flowing freely
At others seeming to hang suspended
Transfixed in time and place by her fear
Like the pregnant pause before the storm to come

Her anxious soul empties drop by drop from her
Until she stands, nearly lifeless
Mere shell of what so recently she was

Under the misleading, relentless sun
Too many of her tears evaporate
And so are lost to her
Forever

Exodus

Michael Jansen, Friendswood, TX

Your tears on flooding waters fall

proclaim to all the depths of pain

of dreams that drown in darkened seas.

But water washes hence the vile;

it leaves behind a stage anew.

Then hope will write a play of dawn.

Dark Moment

in the midst of rocks full of unshed tears

-Eavan Boland

The sea and wind engulfed their laughs

their words in song were drowned by waves

their dreams their promises to be

were sunk to water's bottom, all

because a grim ambrosial spell

bewitched him towards a drunken end.
